The Biden administration suggests selling Finland weaponry for $535 million.
The State Department said on Wednesday that the Biden administration had given the potential sale of guided multiple-launch rocket systems to Finland, valued at about $535 million, its approval.
The decision was made as Finland awaited NATO membership decisions from Turkey and Hungary. Helsinki's decision to join the defense alliance was motivated by Russia's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine; Finland and Russia share an 800-mile border.
"By enhancing the security of a dependable partner, which is a key factor in the political stability and economic development of Europe, the proposed sale will benefit US foreign policy and national security. The notice from the State Department stated that it is crucial for the U.S. national interest to help Finland develop and maintain a strong and ready capability for self-defense.
According to the statement, Finland "intends to use these defense goods and services to strengthen its domestic stock, bolstering the land and air defense capabilities in Europe's northern flank." "The worsening security situation in Europe makes the enlarged national stock essential to Finland's defense and deterrence,"
