Imran Khan, a former Pakistani prime minister, was wounded in a protest march.
In an alleged murder attempt, Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, was shot and injured while participating in a protest march in the eastern city of Wazirabad.
Four more people were injured on Thursday, according to members of his PTI party, but no one was killed.
He may have been struck in the foot or leg, but an assistant was reportedly quoted as claiming he was not in danger.
Following his removal, Mr. Khan, 70, led a march on the capital Islamabad to demand immediate elections.
The AFP news agency was informed by a senior adviser that "this was an effort to kill him, to assassinate him." According to Pakistan's Geo TV, a male suspect was later detained.
Khan was barred from running for public office by Pakistan's electoral board last month in a case that the former All-Star cricketer said had political overtones.
He had been charged with misdeclaring information about gifts from foreign dignitaries and the proceeds of their suspected sale. Rolex watches, a ring, and a set of cufflinks were among the gifts.
